Bakelite Bengal Tiger Walking stick. France, ca 1900

Mysterious and wraithlike, the tiger is rendered invisible in the jungle, forest, or high grasses by its magical fur cloak of irregular body stripes. The tiger signifies the stature and ferocity of the professional or momentary warrior, the pure capacity to spring into action at a critical time. The tiger also crosses into fluid dimensions, loving the waters of hidden jungle pools, oceans, and swamps.

This large handle figure depicts a masterly Bengal Tiger shaped in bakelite with glass eyes, showing an expression of being alert and ready to attack, it is standing on its hind legs and holding a shield in its claws. The detail of his anatomy and engraving of the body stripes is extraordinary, here we have to mention also de high bakelite quality, made in order to imitate the ivory-structure lines. It is 14 cm high x 7 cm wide. There is a silver ring and it is on top of a knotted wood. The O.L. is 92 cm, it ends with a metal ferrule and the whole cane has minimal signs of usage, without chips or cracks the condition is perfect.
